“Idol” Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe told “TV Guide” that the contestants will be allowed to play instruments if they can. Considering the short amount of time they have to learn their songs, this could get tricky for those who attempt it—which could lead to some interesting performances…Lythgoe also said that there will only be mentors every other week. “We realized that we took our eye off the ball and didn’t concentrate on the true talent on the show, and that’s the [wannabes].”
Amen to that one…
Paula Abdul told “TV Guide” that one of those wannabes is “probably going to be bigger than William Hung”…
