The TV Academy Honors "Idol Gives Back"

The show on the verge of becoming Emmy’s biggest loser has just received the Television Academy’s highest honor…

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Board of Governors voted to give its Governors Award to “Idol Gives Back.”

According to the Idol website, the award salutes an individual, company or organization whose works “stand out with the immediacy of current achievement.” It will be presented at the 2007 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

Dick Askin, the Academy Chairman said, “We salute these programs for harnessing the power of television to educate and inform viewers about two very significant issues that touch all of us. With ‘Idol Gives Back,’ American Idol was able to take their audience and raise their awareness of impoverished children and also delivered millions of dollars to help ease their plight.”

“Idol Gives Back” raised over $75 million for children’s programs in Africa and the United States. You can still donate by visiting www.americanidol.com/idolgivesback...
