News for McPhans...




So I guess I shouldn’t give up my part-time career as a TV critic to become a music critic, since everyone seems to be disagreeing with me about Katharine McPhee’s CD. “USA Today” even gave it three out of four stars. Oh well. I stand by what I said…

I finally caught Katharine’s performance of “Over It” on “The Tonight Show” last week. It was obvious that she was extremely nervous since she only smiled at the end and she was most enthusiastic about meeting Mary Lynn Rajskub (not that I blame her on that one). “Over It” is a difficult song to perform and Katharine did a good job, but I think her people should strip the song down so she can be more expressive. The overpowering backup singers were a little restricting…

Katharine is letting her fans—the McPhans—choose the ending to the “Over It” video. The video will show Katharine singing the song and then setting off to deliver it to her cheating boyfriend. She tracks him down at a party and then either gives him the tape or gives him a second chance…

Katharine says that “Neglected,” which she co-wrote (and is one of the strongest tracks on the CD) is about someone specific in her life, but she won’t day who…

As for her experience on “Idol,” Katharine has said in interviews that she never felt fully comfortable on the show. She told “People” that although she originally snuck away from “Idol” to meet him, she and her boyfriend, 41-year-old Nick Cokas, split during the show because she wasn’t being very nice to him. She and Cokas have since reunited…
