"Idol Gives Back" Scoop: The Big Duet

If you don’t want to know who’s doing the “duet you have to see to believe” on Wednesday’s “Idol Gives Back” results show, then stop reading now. Otherwise, keep on going…

According to bloggers on Celine Dion’s website, Celine pre-taped a duet with Elvis for the show. The bloggers say the song was something about dreams, so I’m guessing it’s “If I Can Dream,” which Elliott sang during Elvis week last season. Celine sings along to a track of Elvis, while Elvis appears on the screen. However, on the night she taped the performance, they were unable to generate Elvis on the screen, so they had an Elvis impersonator lip-synch the Elvis verses.

Why would the show do this? Remember that CKX, the company that owns everything “American Idol” also owns everything Elvis as well…

The bigger disappointment is that it appears most of “Idol Gives Back” is going to be pre-taped. Again, I say if you can’t do it live, then don’t do it at all…

It’s important to remember that this has not been confirmed by FOX, but it’s interesting that they’ve dropped the “big duet” from the show promos…
