Spoiler Alert: What the Idols Will Sing Tonight

Today’s “USA Today” offers a fascinating look into the Idols’ process of choosing songs, as they constantly change their minds with the help of producers, vocal coaches and stopwatches…

The article also details those choices. Normally when I find out song choices, I just give you hints, but since I know very little about the Bee Gees, I’m just going to tell you the songs.

So if you want to be surprised tonight, you should stop reading now. Otherwise, keep on going…

After considering “How Deep Is Your Love” and “Grease,” Blake has chosen “You Should Be Dancing” and “This Is Where I Came In.” Barry Gibb told Blake that he actually thought “Jive Talkin’” would have fit him better…

I think we’ll probably hear “How Deep Is Your Love” as a group song with Blake providing the beats, since they performed it as a group for Barry (and he liked the beat-boxing)…

Jordin will pick up the “To Love Somebody” mantle after Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe stepped in and approved it. Jordin was initially unable to do it since it was the song Barry was scheduled to sing Wednesday. I don’t know if that’s still the case or not. Jordin will also do “Woman In Love,” which was a hit for Barbra Streisand…

Melinda chose “Love You Inside Out,” but only after Nigel assures her that the lyrics “loves you inside out, backwards and forwards” are not a sexual reference (Her pastor’s coming to tonight’s show.). The article doesn’t really say for sure if Melinda chose “I Just Want to Be Your Everything” or “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” but I think it’s the second one…

The producers decided on Friday that the songs could run two minutes instead of the usual 1:30, so that caused some problems for LaKisha, but she chose “Run To Me” and ironically, “Stayin’ Alive.” LaKisha has a practice of not revealing her songs to the other singers until Monday’s sound check…

It’s important to note that since the article only follows the Idols through Sunday, it’s quite possible that some of these choices could change…

We’ll see how it all works out tonight…
