The Top 3 Go Home...

Ever since the final three were decided Wednesday night, Melinda, Blake and Jordin have been in a whirlwind that won’t slow down anytime soon…

This past weekend, the top three made visits home to tape footage that will be shown during Tuesday and Wednesday’s shows.

Melinda Doolittle went home to Nashville and visited her alma mater Belmont University, where she once played the mascot (a bear). The university named a street after her, Melinda Doolittle Way…

Jordin went home to Glendale, Arizona, for a parade and concert. Would you believe that Jordin auditioned for “Idol” last summer and didn’t make it past the first round?...

Blake performed a free concert at Westlake Park in Seattle, where he was joined by Sir Mix-A-Lot, who performed his hit “Baby Got Back” over Blake’s beats. From what I could hear on YouTube over the girl who insisted on shouting out all of the lyrics, it was pretty cool. Blake also performed the National Anthem at the Mariners-Yankees game Friday night—and no, he did not beat-box. You can catch that performance at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHia6bh1jCo&mode=related&search=. Can’t believe those commentators said he was pitchy…

Blake also had to fit in a foot surgery for a bad ingrown toenail…

The Idols are performing three songs this week. If the tradition continues and Clive Davis picks one of the songs, you just know he’s going to pick sappy Whitney Houston ballads for Jordin and Melinda…

Because I have to go out of town Tuesday, it’s possible I won’t be back in time to do my as-it-happens posts, so feel free to leave any comments that you just can’t hold in on this post…
