Did America Get It Right?

So before I ask the question I always ask at this time each week, let me go back a little…

I know that all the bloggers out there will accuse the show of manufacturing drama, but I think it was real and it was caused by Kara, who doesn’t seem to understand the strategy of the Judges’ Save…

Here’s a play-by-play, because I think it’s interesting…

As Scott winds down the song, Paula turns to Simon, clearly upset at the prospect of Scott going home (She was willing him to hit that high note this time. You could see it on her face. But he didn’t.). And then Kara starts talking to Simon once again, as she did throughout most of Scott’s song. The judges continue to deliberate and it appears that Simon is a little frustrated.

When Simon reveals that two people think he should stay and two people think he should go, Paula and Kara look at the stage with wounded eyes…As Ryan banters with Scott, Simon looks at Randy, who is seated behind the ladies, and shrugs his shoulders and rolls his eyes…

When Ryan asks for the verdict, Simon says, “This is really tough. I really, really like you, Scott. I’m looking over there and I think there’s a bunch of talented singers. So this decision isn’t just based on you. It’s whether I think someone, or we think someone is more talented over there. And this is the problem.”

Simon looks at Randy and says, “What do we do?” Then, he looks at the ladies and asks, “What do you want to do?” Kara says, “He’s on the right path,” as the audience yells their thoughts.

Ryan pushes for a decision and Randy is heard saying, “Just make it. Just make it.” as Kara shrugs her shoulders and Paula seems resigned to Scott’s fate. And then, Simon renders the decision…

I think that Paula was ready to say goodbye to Scott (I mean, she already had a speech prepared.), but Kara had second thoughts and tried to see what she could do. But Randy and Simon were a united front against saving him.

I have read many on-the-scene reports that say the other judges don’t pay much attention to Kara during the show—almost like they don’t consider her part of the team. And Simon’s look of exasperation and shoulder shrug to Randy pretty much confirms that. They were ready with a decision and Kara was messing it up.

But as Simon said, it’s not just about the person they’re considering saving. It’s about who’s left to save. What if they had used the save this week and then by some complete travesty, Adam ended up going home next week? Simon (and Randy) were right to save the save. And if Kara disagreed with that, then she understands the show a lot less than I thought…

And I call your attention to a key phrase of Simon’s statement to Ryan—“It’s whether I think…” He corrected it to “we” a second later, but it’s clear that Simon is running this show and whatever he decides will be what they go with—whether Kara likes it or not…

Now, to that question. Did America get it right? Absolutely, 100 percent yes. Scott—no matter how likeable he may be—gave the worst performance last night and he deserved to go home.

And I know I predicted Anoop for the bottom three tonight, but he did not deserve to be in the bottom two. What in the world does America hear in Lil? Maybe her great fashion sense is keeping her in this thing. Ryan said only 30,000 votes separated Scott and Anoop. I’d love to know how many separated Anoop and Lil…

So what do you guys think? Did America make the right decision? Did the judges make the right decision? And do you agree with me that Kara was trying to mess things up tonight or was all the drama just an act?
